What is SALUTE?
SALUTE is Europe’s largest independent wargaming event, held once every year for one day only in the enormous ExCel Centre in London.
SALUTE is a huge event where individuals, companies and even other gaming clubs can put on displays of hobby greatness, demonstration and participation games, sell amazing hobby products and exhibit new releases.
SALUTE also hosts its world renowned Painting Competition, judged by some of the hobby’s most prolific painters. The displays at SALUTE are truly works of art, with their makers sometimes spending years making them, they have to be seen to be believed.
More recently, we’ve started running our celebrity panels show, ‘Hobby Heroes’ where you can meet the authors of your favourite games and get top tips from famous painters, hobbyists, historians and wargamers.
Lots of people come dressed in cosplay, play games near and dear to them and try out new games that they might never have had the chance to play. There are chances to get involved in speed painting and model building workshops, learn-to-plays and there’s always more dice to be rolled.
It’s an incredible event and one not to be missed!
The History of SALUTE
The first SALUTE was held in 1972 at the Surrey Tavern at the Oval Cricket ground, and it was such a success that every year afterwards a new and bigger venue was needed!
Today, SALUTE is Europe’s largest independent wargaming event, held in the enormous ExCel Centre in London. Thousands of guests, hundreds of games, traders and clubs turn up from all over the world to take part in something huge which is still run by the same, small, non-profit club that started it over 50 years ago.
The club and its volunteers have hosted a SALUTE every year, only stopping for a global pandemic in 2020. As a non-profit club, the success of each SALUTE drives the next and with the help of our dedicated visitors and exhibitors we were able to celebrate our 50th SALUTE on Saturday 22 April 2023 at the ExCel London.
Now, with each passing year, it just keeps getting better!
