Robin Hunt

Robin was a pioneer of innovative gaming. He built models for playing Eastern front WWII games, including scratchbuilt Russian Aerosans (vehicles on skis with aero engines), and was also a fan of the Spanish Civil War, running games portraying that complex conflict. Another of his interests was the Alamo and he ran several games at shows using card based combat systems. Lastly, with his partner (fellow Club member Dave Bodger) he developed a computerised WWII tank combat calculator for early home computers with versions for the ZX Spectrum and the BBC B.

He served on committee for a few years as Displays Officer and was instrumental in encouraging other Club members to travel the country, going to other shows and spreading the word of the Warlords.

ROBERT BOTHWELL

Robert was Club Treasurer for several years, keeping a tight watch over Club Finances. But principally, he was a historical gamer whose interests ranged from Ancients through to the American Civil War. He was very supportive of new Club members at South London Warlords and was always willing to share his knowledge, and run a game if they needed it.

BILL BREWER

Bill was one of the founding fathers of the Club. He ran the Rye Stamp and Hobby Shop in Peckham for many years where hundreds of London wargamers came to buy their figures and hobby supplies and get painting advice from Bill. We cannot imagine how many gamers were introduced to this hobby by walking through his shop door. He was a master painter of figures and set the standard for modern day painters - his Renaissance Polish Winged Hussars were a thing of beauty. He was Club Treasurer for many years - collecting sub, ensuring the Club’s finances kept everything running, and set the financial foundations for SALUTE.

JIM CLARK

James (known to all as Big Jim) was a gamer from Streatham who was a member of the South London Warlords from the mid 1990s to his passing in 2018. He  regularly served on the committee and was a constant presence on a Monday night from the moment he joined. A physically huge man, he was a true ‘gentle giant'. Always friendly, Jim was enthusiastic about any new project or period we started.  His gaming covered all periods and scales - historical, fantasy and sci-fi. Always a competitive player, he loved nothing more than a friendly argument over rules interpretation!  A much loved dad and husband, Jim worked for the London Fire Brigade and was also a keen sea angler. The only time he wasn't up for a wargame was when he was fishing from a beach.

Sorely missed by all his family, friends and table top opponents.
